Bike to Work Prince George
Firstly, congratulations to all riders of Bike to Work & School Week 2013 who helped to make the event a success. Collectively we logged over 10,000 km and encouraged 73 people to try riding to work for the first time!
Of course, for the competitive among us, it’s time for our prize announcements! Each year, Integris Credit Union sponsors the grand prizes for Bike to Work and & School Week: bike racks installations at locations selected by the winning teams. Over the past five years, these installations have added approxiamtely 40 bike parking spaces to our community, and this year we will be adding 20 more!
Without further ado, the winning teams of this year’s Bike to Work & School Week are:
Wow! What a great end to Bike to Work Week here in Prince George!
We had a blast at the Friday afternoon BBQ at the Victoria St. Community Garden. The event was superbly hosted by the Canadian Cancer Society, Integris Credit Union, and the PG Cycling Club. Cycle Logic was on site to offer tune-ups and the BC Hydro team was there to test whether our savvy cyclers are power smart too. The Pulp City Woodpeckers were also on hand to feed the group some delicious BBQ’d burgers!
Today’s morning station was great! Mark and Cam from Team Powerhouse Realty hosted an awesome mexican-themed breakfast station at their 5th ave office.
This afternoon will be the last Celebration Station! Come by the Victoria St. Community Garden for the week-end BBQ party hosted by the Canadian Cancer Society and Intergis Credit Union. We’ll be partying from 4-6pm. This is your chance to get into the community garden and see how REAPS’ garden grows! Check out this year’s crop and their innovative planting techniques.
The Pulp City WoodPeckers (PG’s newest Roller Derby team) will be serving up BBQ’d meat and veggie burgers by donation!

Anyone stopping by the Two Rivers Gallery Celebration Station this morning got a tasty treat! The Students for a Green University lent their Blender Bike for the event. Andrew K. from CBC’s Daybreak Riders was on site to get some audio and a photo of the blender in action. Delicious! The gang also had bike parts and paint for those wanting to bring some bike art home with them. How about a sproket painting?
Be sure to come to the Mexican Themed Celebration Station Fiesta tomorrow morning from 7-9:30am. Grab a burrito and a coffee and say Hi to Team Powerhouse!
Bike to Work Week is 1/2 over now so it’s all down hill from here! Get out there and get in your kilometers! Submitting your kms to your Team Leader each day helps your whole team set distance targets for the rest of the week!
We figured you needed a bit of a boost in the middle of the week so there were FOUR Stations today! Save-On Foods College Heights, Parkwood, and Hart Highway locations were set up bright and early to ply our long-distance commuters with snacks.
Theresa, Katie, and Hannah of Handsome Cabin Boy Tattoo gave out stickers and pain-free tattoos to their cycling guests along with coffee and muffins.
Swing by the 2nd Annual McMillan Creek Park Celebration Station hosted by AllNorth. We’ll be there from 4-6pm handing our beverages and snacks. Get your name entered in the prizes draw or just stop to say hello!
This morning’s station provides upstown commuters a quick refuling station on their way to work. Thanks to Kelly and our local BCAA team for sponsoring another great Station!
We had a special visitor from Bike to Work Week BC; Richard Bakus, the President of our provincial group came to check out our P.G. event today. He was snapping photos of our participants to take home. Richard’s favourite thing about PG BTWW? Our Bus signage! He was really impressed to see this as evidence of the great relationship between the PG Cycling Club, the City, and BC Transit.
Here’s Richard getting a shot of Peter’s family bike.
It was a cold commute for Prince George cyclists today but at City Hall they grabbed a quick coffee and egge sandwich to warm up.
The sun is out now so all those that braved the rain will be rewarded with a warm ride home (I hope they packed shorts).
Thanks to The City of Prince George and McElhanney for providing us with another great Bike to Work Week opening event!
We’ll see you tomorrow morning at the 15th & Ospika -BCAA Station in the morning (7-9:30am) and McMillan Creek Park -AllNorth Station in the afternoon (4-6pm). Be sure to come by and say hello to Richard, the president of Bike to Work Week BC, he’ll be at our morning station!
